The greatest fashion gift of your older age is being clear about who you are. Teens need to follow the latest fashion trends because they don’t have a clear sense of who they are. Remember when you just had to have the latest? By now you know who you are. Use this to your advantage.
The most stylish women all have a basic style that they don’t change each season. Getting clear about your look is your key to knowing your style.
Classic or executive. If your style is classic you want your clothes to fit well, to be smooth and elegant. You like simple lines, no flounces. You prefer solid colours. Your jewellery is never flamboyant; you prefer pearls or understated earrings. Your haircut is classic too - no wisps or long curls. Condolezza Rice has a Classic style.
The natural look. If your style is the Natural look you prefer a relaxed fit and ease of movement. Imagine for a moment seeing a woman in a tweed skirt and a solid coloured blouse striding across the lawn or down a hall. Think of Julia Roberts and Katherine Hepburn. Both are clear examples of the Natural Look.
The romantic. Forget jeans or khaki shorts. If your style is the Romantic Type you prefer looking feminine ALL the time. You love colour and prints. You spend time dressing. Baubles and shoes -goodness you love shoes! Sophia Loren and Marilyn Monroe typify romantic style dressing. (I include Sophia Lauren just to show that Fashion after 40 is more than possible. At age 76 Sophia remains a stunning Romantic type dresser.
Dramatic style. This is bold and sophisticated. You walk in room and EVERYONE notices. "Knock 'em dead style' Strong colors, solids - no prints. Contrast.
One of the most persistent Dramatic style figures is Cher but there are others. Carmen Dell'Ofericce, a still sought after as a fashion model at age 80 is a good example of Dramatic style.
